13 May Creatures – Art at its best
Creatures, an art exhibition curated by Mim Montgomery and Marnie Vaughn was held this month. I attended the event and found it to be a very successful exhibition and the most enjoyable I have been to in a very long time. Their was a live performance by the overdressed band A Disastrous Fireworks Display (as found on the Artless Armchair Compilation), probably the highlight of the night was their sexy rendition of toxic by Britney Speares, it was epic.
Creatures was an exhibition of emerging local and interstate artists. Creatures was found to be the general theme of the selected artists work but each artists took their own angle at its meaning, as displayed in a variety of mediums. Some of the artists include: Ilana Thorpe, Meaghan Leonard, Anna Wilkenfeld, Monique Pompe, Cassie Noel, Jenn Tait, Christian Heinrich, Miriam Montgomery, Grant Hunter, Nicholas French and Marnie Vaughn.
Buckland St Gallery was a perfect location for the exhibition, just off the main road set in the leafy suburbs of Redfern. It amazed me the support behind these artists as artworks were snapped up left, right and centre before many had a chance to view. It was a great night that was celebrated by many into the wee hours of the morning.
