28 Sep An Invitation

Please come and participate in a social activity, commonly known as a “gig”. Conventionally, there is usually a group of people called a “band” who sit on a slightly raised area in the corner facing the rest of the participants and make sounds with their voices as well as by hitting various implements. Those members of this activity who are not in the band are known as the “audience” and this role as as audience member was the one I had particularly in mind for you and you all. Conventionally, the success of a gig is measured according to the “turnout”, in other words how many audience members there are. The gig will of course be a further success depending on the level of enjoyment had by the audience members, usually expressed through applause and vocal encouragement. The movement of the body in response to the sounds emitted by the band, known as “dancing”, is also a common form of approval.
I perhaps have foregone to mention one of the most important features of the gig. That is, it is conventionally aimed at having “fun”, especially in the company of other humans. The gig is one of the most popular forms of social interaction currently undertaken by humans of many ages and tastes. Although not necessary, alcohol is usually available at gigs and is a wonderful social lubricant. It also helps participants to “unwind”, as many of them will have had to work during the day. If you don’t like alcohol, don’t worry! There will also be a variety of “soft” drinks available on the night, including water (which is free!)
I understand this is all very new, however I have confidence that all of you would be perfect candidates for this activity, and furthermore, I believe it will give you great enjoyment to participate.
Listed below is all the required information, including the place of meeting, the date and time of the event, along with the names that the various groups of performers use to differentiate themselves.
Mike McCarthy (album launch)
w/ Chad Mason (Wagons)
& Jess Locke
The John Curtain Hotel
29 Lygon Street Carlton
I have also attached what is known as a “flyer” for your reference. It has a picture on it and fancy writing in order to draw more appeal to the event. It has a picture of a lion on it, reflecting the title of the “album” that is to be “launched”, which has the title, “The Lion’s Share”. It’s very clever.
Another appealing aspect of the gig is that rsvp’s are quite unnecessary. In addition to this, it is quite acceptable to bring along acquaintances who may not have received a formal invitation from me or another representative of the event. This reflects the “laid-back” nature of the gig. So please pass on this information and discuss it amongst yourselves. If you do, however, have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do my best to respond satisfactorily.
I do look forward to our mutual enjoyment of a social event.
