03 Feb To The North – Departure
Brisbane’s math-jazz-punk maestros To the North return in 2015 with their long awaited 7” ‘Departure’. Recorded at Blackhole Studios in February 2014 by David Williams & Bradley Vander Lugt, it is the band’s first output their 2011 album ‘Lustre’. I use the word ‘institution’ with restraint but in their eight years of existence, their reach from the sweaty houses of No Culture fest in Brisbane to the introduction of La Dispute to Australian audiences, To the North has cemented its presence and influence upon the Brisbane DIY community.
It is hard to pin what emotions arise when I listen to this band; each element of the melody fighting against each other; working as an analgesic as I radiate, burst, melt, shudder, and soak in something that cannot be named, but only reassure I am human.
‘Departure’ will be co-released by the Eunoia Collective and Lesstalk Records on the 20th February – in time for a special 2007-esque show at Crowbar featuring The Gifthorse, We Set Sail, Inside the Whale, and some very clever guests.
