New tracks from McClane and Shirlow
McClane have been recording for their new split CD with fellow Canberrian (is that even a word?) tech grinder hardcore folk Psyus (who are fucking ace by the way). They've got a new track up on their myspace. Scope scope scope.

A mate of mine has also started a very impressive post-metal band called Shirlow featuring members of Anklepants, 1shotkill, Captains, Captains Package, Unkle Jed, Squat club and Qwerty. The guys have put a few tracks up. Odd time signatures and build-ups a plenty my friends. Isis and Cult of Luna influence coupled with some noisy metallic hardcore and a lot more stuff I'm sure I'm not qualified to comment on.
Saw their first show at the Annandale which was really cool - they had a huge live sound and seemed really comfortable playing with each other. Check them out if you get a chance.

I saw Shirlow at Utopia, their set was cut short, but was pretty good. Didn’t have any stage presence though, just sort of shoe gazed the whole time.

Evan (drummer) wasnt very happy with that set. Infact he couldnt say enough bad things about it. He wasnt too keen on the sound or set-up in Utopia.
I saw them at The Annandale and they were pretty awesome. They’re not the type of band that is going to climb walls and knock out small children with their guitars though.

Yeah, I figure that with that kind of music you aren’t likely to jump around. They all sort of shrank back near the kit though. Who organises the gigs at Utopia? Does the store supply the PA and sound guy?

No idea. There’s a sound guy? I thought it was like a vocal only PA?

Yeah you’re probably right. I was just wondering if you have the option of bringing in a better PA.
