Scumfest 2009 (SA) featuring Capt. Cleanoff

Posted by Lachlan

SpacebongThe Australia Day long weekend seems to be a hotbed of killer festivals. You've got Grindcore 2009 in VIC, Scumfest 2009 in SA, Decolonise Festival in NSW, Big Day Out and who knows what else.

Anyway here is the super-sexy Scumfest line-up that was at least in part - if not in its entirety - arranged by Keagan of the suffocating doom/grind band Spacebong. The line-up has some killer names on it including Captain Cleanoff, Kill A Celebrity (NSW), Dining in Tuscany (NSW), Prison Bitch, Corrupters, Robotosaurus, God God Dammit Dammit, Spacebong, Ok Peligro and S.A. Waste.

It's an awesome mix of grind, hardcore, metal, punk, crust and doom and it all goes down at Worldsend in Adelaide over 2 days, the 2nd night being an all-ages kinda deal. Can't fucking wait.

Online in 2-double-ohh-nine..

Well there goes.. 2008 is over before you ever new it started.

Just last week I got my first 2008 $2 coin in my change, and we are here again already..

This year we've had the pleasure of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Messhugah, Insect Warfare, Pig Destroyer, Grave, Carcass, Down, Dismember, Dragonforce and Pope Benedict XVI on our shores. Not to mention Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and Bone-Thugs-and-FUCKING-Harmony on one bill! Stray Cats, The Angels and Rose Tattoo where not to be missed this year.

 Me, Scott Hull, The Boss

Agents of Abhorrence put out some new tunes, as did Pig Destroyer, Zimmers Hole, Satyricon, Motley Crue, Metallica, AC/DC, Dragonforce, Bring Me the Horizon, Darkthrone (Surprise!), Captain Cleanoff, The Kill, The Day Everything Became Nothing, and Blood Duster finally got those re-releases out there.

In the world abroad, America did something I never saw coming and elected Barrack Obama. Fuck yes, it WAS time for change. Britney Spears lost her head and the hair on it, and came back with a career boost not seen since the '68 Elvis comeback. Paul McCartney got divorced again. Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty where in more trouble than Boy George at a Klan Rally, so what!? They're on drugs, I knew that last year. Wine sales for 2008 were up 22 million litres compared with 2007. We had another utterly tiresome, time and revenue sucker of an Olympic Games. Iran sent a shuttle in to space and openned it's own space station. Raul Castro took the reigns in Cuba. Grand Theft Auto IV and Guitar Hero: World Tour finally came out. I hear of a financial crisis everyday, but I'm making more money than I ever have before and it's not affecting me, so I don't give a shit. Israeli's and Palestinian's still continue to kill one and other (and just about everything within the gelignites blast radius for that matter). Plane crashes/hijackings, Train accidents, Earthquakes, Hurricanes and Smoking continue to increase their hefty death tolls.

It was the year of the sequel with Rambo, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Dark Knight, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Saw V, Quantum of Solace, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Transporter 3, and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 all coming out this year.

This year Heath Ledger, Charlton Heston, Yves Saint Laurent, Bo Didley, Isaac Hayes, Bernie Mac and Eartha Kitt all passed on.

We lost HIMSA, Celtic Frost and Ministry also, all of whom will be sadly missed.

Whilst Mindsnare and Blueline Medic are on indefinate hiatuses.

2008. Wasn't good or bad. It was there, and now it's gone. I'm online for 2009. Straight off the bat Public Enemy at the Espy tomorrow night, and the night after. With Grindcore 2009 looming ever heavier, as well as Deicide, Necrophagist, Aborted, Dying Fetus, The DIllinger Escape Plan and Horse (the band) already having tour dates posted for 2009, things are looking up.

Wishing you all a very brutal New Years, and hoping y'all are all online in 2-double-ohh-nine..

Conquest for Death Australian Tour

Posted by Lachlan

Conquest for Death liveConquest for Death have announced a tour of Australia during October with Cut Sick!

Conquest for Death is a fast thrashy old school hardcore outfit made up of members of What Happens Next?, Artimus Pyle, All You Can Eat, Love Songs, Charm (Japan), Pisschrist & Straightjacket Nation - so it's a little bit of a punk rock supergroup.

They're playing with The Kill, Dad They Broke Me, The Corruptors (members of Los Diablos, Space Bong and The Guantanamo Bay City Rollers), Straightjacket Nation, 4 Dead, Crux, Deathcage, Maus and Pathetic Human over the course of the tour. They've got a pretty crazy live show, so be sure to cut the sleeves off your old Sick of it All t-shirts, do some dumbell curls and practice your spin kicks before the gig rolls around.
