Code of Lies ‘The Age of Disgrace’ out now on Grindhead Records

Posted by Lachlan

CODE OF LIES - THE AGE OF DISGRACEGrindhead Records is proud to announce the release of the debut MCD The Age of Disgrace from Australian newcomers Code of Lies.

Hailing from Orange in NSW, Code of Lies play a modern style of groove-laden, hybrid technical death/grind drawing influences from a wide range of extreme metal genres. The Age of Disgrace contains a dynamic mix of guttural lows and raging high vocals backed with thick, intricate guitar work and blasting drums that hit harder than a spinkick to the face.

Code of Lies balance the level of technical ability of bands like Cephalic Carnage and Psyopus with the sheer intense aggression of Nasum and Pig Destroyer influenced grindcore and the complex sense of melody and groove from Between the Buried and Me and The Haunted. With The Age of Disgrace as an extremely impressive debut, Code of Lies have established themselves as a new talent to watch out for in the Australian extreme scene.

Tonight: Grannyfist & Frank Rizzo at The Harp

Grannyfist LiveQuite a cool little Grindhead Records show on tonight which will be no doubt enhanced by the simplistic beauty of pints at an Irish Pub.

Grannyfist, Frank Rizzo, Code of Lies and Fuck Oath will all be grinding up The Harp Irish Pub at Tempe from 8:00pm. I recommend some form of steak/pint combination for maximum enjoyment (is there a bistro there?).

In case you don't know these bands; Grannyfist play Anal Cunt-inspired screeching breakneck grindcore, with an extremely talented drummer (who also plays in Roadside Burial with members of Sydney veterans Bludgeoner and Volatile) and a hilarious vocalist (who also DJs as Drillbit) armed with truly horrific and agonizing vocal effects.

Frank Rizzo liveFrank Rizzo are one of my favourite Sydney punk bands. Their music is fast, furious and catchy as hell, complimented by two vocalists who play very well of eachother. All up they are a killer six piece. Code of Lies are the promising young trans-genre grind band that I keep raving about (unforunately sans their caped vocalist Nathattak). Their new MCD The Age of Disgrace should be available on the night.

Last of all Fuck Oath are a crusty grind/hardcore band with members of many other Sydney bands. I haven't had a chance to catch these guys live yet.

The line up is as follows:
Frank Rizzo
Code of Lies
Fuck Oath

See you cunts there.

Tonight: Rather Be Dead, Yeah Bears, Psyus, Kill A Celebrity and Code of Lies at the Sando

Rather Be DeadTired of the same old boring fucking indie bands sitting around and playing the same old passionless, monotonous music while gazing at their shoes? Well tonight for $5 you can check out 5 energetic and chaotic grindcore and hardcore acts at The Sandringham Hotel!

We start with promising young grinders Code of Lies (or 'Codeo Flies' as they like to be called) trekking all the way down from Orange opening up the show. Code of Lies have their debut MCD 'The Age of Disgrace' coming out shortly on Grindhead Records. Last time I saw these guys was when Kill A Celebrity headed out their way to play a house party where they picked up a 2nd guitarist - and man was I impressed.

KilCode of Lies remind me of Beyond Terror Beyond Grace in that they're prepared to work their fucking asses off rehearsing, and the improvement since their first Sydney show at East West Death Grind Fest in 2007 is remarkable. They fuse elements of Cephalic Carnage, Between the Buried and Me, Pig Destroyer, The Haunted and Nasum - I will be watching these kids very intently tonight.

Next we have my lovable band Kill A Celebrity. This is the last show we have booked until November as our drummer heads over to Rio (the asshole). We're back to being a three-piece again, and we have a bit of a suprise for people on the night. Sensual Kill A Celebrity t-shirts will be available for $20 a pop. Maybe cheaper if I dont hate you.

Code of LiesThen comes Psyus hailing from Canberra. I'm really keen to see how this intense group translates live; they sound like a mix of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Locust and Pig Destroyer - very technical and very chaotic. Next up, locals Yeah Bears take the stage to flaunt their brand of quirky Daughters-influenced thrashing punk.

Last and certainly not least, we have Newcastle's Rather Be Dead, complete with new guitarist. These guys defintely bring the likes of The Rivalry, 4 Dead and Converge to mind both in terms of their monsterous live sound, their brand of violent metallic hardcore and their crazy on-stage (and off-stage) antics. The guys will be launching their new EP on the night. I know I'm excited; the newer stuff I've heard sounds awesome.

So, I guess you can either check out some retro 80s death metal, some arty lo-fi indie-rock, some and the staple trendy breakdowncore - or you could rock down to the Sando and watch groups of kids play some stupidly fast and complicated tunes. Did I mention only $5?
