Grindhead Records Presents: East West Deathgrind Fest 6!!

Posted by mothereel

Blasterpieces represent!

It's here!  Christmas for those into extreme underground local talent has arrived.  Bubsy, who plays Santa in this metaphor, has done it again, or maybe he's gone done better than last year!  What a line-up!!

Showcasing a bunch of fools with instruments from a wide variety of towns and villages, this year's East West has bands from South Australia, a mighty contingent from Victoria, Queensland is represented and even a few bois from the A.C.T are coming around to make some noise.

Sydney's darlings, Ether Rag, are also launching their highly anticipated 7" so make sure you save a handful of post-beer coins to exchange for that sexy vinyl.  Grindhead Records will, of course, also have their distro with a fine selection of extreme music from around the world with maybe even a few choices being available for under $5!

I'm also playing, this time I'm filling the bass and vocals for those handsome Backpacker boys.  That should be interesting... hopefully.

Keep up to date with set times and other announcements by going to the facebook event page.

Newcastle Grindcore Show Spectacular!!

Posted by mothereel

Luke apologises for this.

You may have seen Wounded Pig in the ACT at a free gig because you're heaps crusty and you blew all your rent money on your pouch.  You want more, so you're going to have to hitch or bum a lift up to Newy.

Featuring old mates Grannyfist, who haven't been to Sydney in a while, probably due to STIs (Sydney Transgender Interests).

Face event page here.
Information on LGBTI here.

Long Weekend Options pt 1: This Is Not Art

Posted by mothereel

Today is hump day.  If you're like me, which I hope that you're not, otherwise I'd probably have to change myself even further to attract people to make out with...  uuhhhh... oh yeah!  You may be thinking of the long weekend fast approaching!  Here's the first post of things you could potentially do and may actually involve some of the ol' blasty beats.

First option, and I'm posting it now so you've got a bit of time to get your wheels into action, is Newcastle's This Is Not Art festival.  It started as a part of the Writers Festival and the Electrofringe Festival, both taking place in the area.  The two float into and out of each other seamlessly and there's lots to do.  Here's the link to each day's schedule, with my personal highlights:

Friday
Highlights:
Get Rid of Gina
Who Killed the Avant-Garde? Apathy and Contemporary Art
The Right Stuff

 Saturday
Highlights:
Authorial Ethics in a Self-Authoring Age
Sonic Ontology: The Art of Noise
The Book of Hours

Sunday
Highlights:
Electrofringe Showcase
Zine Fair
Closing Night Party

More importantly, while you're up there, there's this good 'un gig!
https://www.facebook.com/events/156595287865268/
Featuring Flowers for Cops from Victoria and some localish bands.    8 bands for $5.  That's pretty great.  You'll have to click that link to get the list of bands because I'm pushing you out of your comfort zone.

What are you looking to do?  Any other gigs or events?  Got anything you're looking out for at TINA?

Long Weekend Options part 2 comes up on Friday.  Got something that needs to be there?

All Are Equal In Death Mini-Tour: Cruciform, Brazen Bull (Qld) & Mother Eel

All Are Equal In Death Mini-Tour

All Are Equal In Death Mini-Tour

Uniting under their respective aspects of Extreme Metal, 3 hideously misguided bands are hitting the road and damaging audiences over 1 weekend.  Returning from Queensland are the ever jarring and schizophrenic Brazen Bull, to be offset by reformed 90s doom legends Cruciform and Blue Mountains based dissonant oddities Mother Eel.  The mini-tour will see all 3 bands stop off at Wollongong, Sydney and Ourimbah, on the Central Coast.  There they will be complimented by locals: Hawkmoth, Nobody Knew They Were Robots, Corotted, Alf Stewart & Postal.

Having pioneered the Australian Death/Doom style in the early 90s only to break up before their time, Cruciform have reformed and are returning to the live scene after way too long.
Playing their last series of shows with the current line-up, Queensland’s technical Death Grinders Brazen Bull return to NSW to show off their bass player Adam before he calls it a day .
Boasting new songs and merch, Avant-garde Death Metallers, Mother Eel will be exhibiting a re-arranged line-up.  They are now a fresh 4 piece but just as cacophonous, caustic and discordant.

Kicking off the tour will see the trio joined at Dicey Riley’s Hotel in Wollongong on the 22nd of March by Sludge negotiators Hawkmoth and Math worshipping Nobody Knew They Were Robots (NKTWR).  The show then moves into Sydney on the 23rd of March, where old school Death Metallers Corotted open up the night at The Agincourt Hotel.  The tour draws to a close on the 24th of March at an All Ages extravaganza in Ourimbah on the Central Coast.  Rounding out is this All Ages Show at Sohier Park Community Hall are NKTWR, Alf Stewart and Postal, who have recently released a split with Office Jerks.  Sunday is strictly a no drug or alcohol allowed event.
