AusGrind hits of the Summer (Australian grindcore compilation)

The grind hit mix of summer, turn those summer blues around with some real party tunes!

Free download. Get it now. Australian blastbeat! Will! Warm! Your! Heart!

At AusGrind's recent annual shareholders conference (read: a messy drunken grindparty for two) the AusGrind board move to initiate a new social welfare initiative aimed at increasing the grindparty of our fellow Australians over this summer period.

It is in this spirit of charity that we are proud to present AusGrind's Hits of the Summer 2011 - a FREE digital compilation featuring 21 tracks of premium grindparty tunes from some of Australia's greatest grindcore, powerviolence and crossover bands - not to mention some awesome underground gems you might not yet know.

AusGrind's Hits of the Summer is great gift for your grind loving mother on Christmas Day. Please burn this mix to a CD, to place in your shitty car stereo, boost the Treble to 11 and let those buff Gaga-loving circle jerks know who's boss.

Serious Beak album launch with Pirate and Dumbsaint at the Lansdowne HotelThis Saturday 26 November, Serious Beak will be launching their debut album 'Huxwhukw' at a free show at the Lansdowne Hotel, joined by their progressive pals Pirate and Dumbsaint.

The even kicks off at 8pm and is absolutely free. More info over at the Facebook event.

Haven't heard Serious Beak? You can stream the album here. The band features members of Squat Club, Adrift for Days, Slimey Things, Battle Pope, Squid, Ebolie, the Mabobs, Push Air and the Puffy Jackets, Dyke Destroyer and many more.

Press release to follow:

"Huxwhukw" is an eccentric amalgamation of mind-melting, toe-tapping, psychedelic, progressive and poly-rhythmic discordant music, sure to please fans of Meshuggah, Mastodon, Botch, The Mars Volta and King Crimson.

Huxwhukw is the supernatural long-beaked cannibal bird and servant to Baxwbakwalnuksiwe, the Cannibal-at-the-North-end-of-the-world in Kwakwaka'wakw mythology. Huxwhukw uses his long, snapping beak to crack open the skulls of men to eat their brains and pluck out their eyeballs.

All hail Huxwkwux and the Crooked Beak of Heaven.

Tonight: Sydney grindcore pub crawl

Posted by Matt

If you think Sydney has no grind scene I would like tonight to be one of the many examples to prove you are wrong. Both key writers for this blog, Lachlan and myself are both putting on competing grindcore shows tonight, giving you a "choice" to get your grind fix. And if you don't like the sound of either of those gigs, then why are you reading our blog? Don't worry, if you play your cards right you can catch both (hopefully).

1st Stop - Black Wire Records

At Black Wire Records Cyberne, Japanese cybergrind and Melbourne's DEAD are playing with locals Nunchucka Superfly, Battle Pope and Video Nasty, that will kick off round 7pm. So far all reports are that Cyberne are freaking bruuutal.

After Party - The Townie

Immediately after being punished by Nunchucka Superfly I recommend hitting up The Townie in Newtown for The Worstmn and Michael Crafter, supporting the excellent Reverend Jesse Custer, brutal spazz grind from Canberra who are launching their EP tonight.

The EP sounds freaking awesome, and this will officially be their first show in Sydney, so come catch em while they are still wide eyed and bushy tailed. A perfect after show hang for more grindcore and partying just in case a single show of excellent grind wasn't enough. A busy night of blastbeats.

The Reverend Jesse Custer

Video: FGWMWS – Live at the Cavendish Grindhaus

"There is no mythology behind the name. No obscure creation story or rallying philosophy. FGWMWS are just a three piece spazz-grind band hailing from New South Wales, Australia. Their shows a mixture of cathartic emotional release and light-hearted debate. Their music as honest and raw as their independent ethic.
FGWMWS recent delivery 'Counter/Transference' (2011) has received acclaim from their peers within Australia's metal, punk and hardcore music scenes. The album features 17 arrangements of varying intensity, from anxious blasts to understated measure. Their story inspired by life's meaningless yet profound gestures. For fans of early recordings of Agents of Abhorrence, Pig Destroyer, Left for Dead/The Swarm, Orchid, Daughters and Converge."

Videos filmed at a good ol' Sydney grindcore house show last weekend with Battle Pope and Michael Crafter. Cinematography by Tim Carr's iPhone.
