12 March: Ulcerate at A Million Dead Birds Laughing at the Bald Faced Stag
Catch NZ dissonant death metallers Ulcerate (NZ) and Melbourne death/grind band A Million Dead Birds Laughing (VIC) this Saturday at the Bald Faced Stag. This tour was arranged by Evolutionary Touring (run by my pal Ben Terror of old Beyond Terror Beyond Grace fame) and also features Dining in Tuscany, Ignite the Ibex and FGWMWS.
Here's the Facebook event - and here's the accompanying press release:
New Zealand’s leading extreme metal export, ULCERATE, are a band that is driven to create a sonic assault of sound focused on bleak and extreme atmospheres. The 2009 release of their album ‘Everything Is Fire’ resulted in rave reviews, tours to Europe with Nile, to Australia & more, and saw their brand of dissonant metal take hold with many an extreme metal fan worldwide.
January 25, 2011 will see the release of Ulcerate’s third full-length album The Destroyers of All through Willowtip Records. Ambitious, oppressive and expansive, with a strict adherence to the tradition of total bleakness the band is becoming known for, The Destroyers of All presents the most atmospheric and challenging listen from the band to date.
I'd really like to check out Ulcerate and A Million Dead Birds - and Fat Guy Wears Mystic Wolf Shirt are fucking ace - but I've got a wedding to go to. I would highly recommend you guys make it down! Really solid line-up for the night.

Beyond Terror Beyond Grace sign with Obscene Productions and Deepsend Records
Grindhead Records have had a long history with Beyond Terror Beyond Grace. It was back in 2005 that we released the (then) young grind bands very promising 4 track demo Still Human, Still Humane?, followed by their impressive debut full length album Extinction | Salvation in 2008.
Beyond Terror Beyond Grace spend the majority of 2009 writing and recording their latest full length album Our Ashes Built Mountains. Clearly their work and dedication has paid off, as they have been picked up by the amazing Obscene Productions (for Europe) and Deepsend records (for USA).
I'd like the wish the guys congratulations and the full knowledge that they deserve this signing, having proven time and time again that they are without question one of the most dedicated and professional bands in the Australian extreme music scene. Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on a copy of the album in the near future for a review.
Tonight: Ulcerate, Beyond Terror Beyond Grace and Dining in Tuscany
Tonight New Zealand technical death metal outfit Ulcerate tear up the Sandringham Hotel alongside two of Sydney's best extreme bands: Beyond Terror Beyond Grace and Dining in Tuscany.
Ulcerate: Brutal technical death metal a la Immolation and Gorguts
Beyond Terror Beyond Grace: Modern European grindcore a la Rotten Sound and Nasum
Dining in Tuscany: Epic post-hardcore black metal a la Buried Inside meets Wolves in the Throne Room
Entry is $10. If you're a self-respecting metal head you should probably be there. Never heard Ulcerate? Don't want to listen to me? Well check out their album review at Teufels Tomb and Diabolical Conquest (two of the very rare zines that I actually hold in high regard). Check it nice, fools.
