LOG’s Second Album was recorded in Sydney in 2002 and originally released through Highbeam Music in 2003. Nowdays LOG’s members are now scattered across the Australian stoner highlights Looking Glass and Pod People, as well as Boonhorse, Veebees, Disavow and Shifter.
COUGH (USA) to engulf Sydney in a haze of bong smoke this weekend
I'd be hard pressed to think of a recent album more fantastically depressing, crushing and suffocating than Cough's Ritual Abuse. The good news for all of Australia is that Cough are currently on tour as part of 666 Entertainment's Doomsday Festival. Definitely one not to miss!

The aftermath of Doomsday Festival
After successful festivals in Melbourne and Canberra, 666 Entertainment's Doomsday Festival finally came to Sydney last weekend. And after all the hype it definitely didn't disappoint.
After suffering a number of venue changes (from The Bald Face Stag to The Town and Country Hotel to the Sandringham Hotel) and a minor line-up shuffle that saw Pod People and Blarke Bayer’s Black Widow pull-out in return for yet another Fattura Della Morte reformation, everything ran smoothly on the night. Ivan's work in keeping 10 bands who specialise in long, droning sets with plenty of potential to overrun their designated time slots was impressive.
Boonhorse played a solid set of catchy, bass-heavy sludge rock, and I also really enjoyed Fattura Della Morte's set - which was a first for me. My personal highlights were Space Bong's relentless droning stoner/doom in a set which was their best show within New South Wales, and - not suprisingly - Looking Glass who absolutely stole the show once again. It's awesome to have seen a band like Looking Glass gather up a solid Sydney following over the last 12 months. It is extremely well deserved.
All day I'd been hearing about this two-piece Agonhymn. They were spoken about in hushed, reverent tones - and I became really keen to check them out. However, I ran over to Brian Campeau's CD launch at The Macquarie Hotel in Surry Hills to find that show sold out; and Agonhymn finished by the time I got back to the Sando. Lame.
All in all it was a fantastic festival and definitely the best local show in recent memory. Cheers to Nathan of 666 Entertainment for organising such a great line-up and giving so many bands a well deserved platform of doom. Doomsday, High and Dry and Soundwave
A few words about three upcoming - and radically different - festivals; Doomsday, High And Dry and Soundwave.
Doomsday Festival
First up; Doomsday hits Sydney tomorrow. To answer the rumours; yes unfortunately both Pod People and Blarke Bayer's (of Grey Datura's I believe) Black Widow have had to pull out of the festival. They have been replaced by Fattura Della Morte; who will once more be reforming to play one of their "final shows ever".
Here is the final line-up and set times. Doors open at the Sandringham Hotel in Newtown at 4pm and entry is now $20 (since Ivan of 666 Entertainment thought it wasn't fair to keep the price as is without Pod People, and because he's just an all-around nice guy).

Soundwave Festival
Next; the line-ups for both High And Dry festival and Soundwave are impressive. Soundwave have secured my interest by promising Faith No More, Meshuggah, Isis and Baroness. I never expected to ever go to one of those awful festivals; but I think this year might just be an essential.

Lastly, the High and Dry line-up already includes such fantastic local acts as The Crooked Fiddle Band, Squid, Svelt, Juke Baritone and the Swamp Dogs, Charlie and the Maddox Factory, Brackets, The Bakery, Monk Fly, Fuji Collective and The Phonies. Early bird tickets are only $120, so hook one up if you want a dose of killer local independent music.
Doomsday 2009 Line-Up for NSW, VIC & ACT!
Those cool doomed cats of 666 Entertainment have put together one killer festival of stoner, psychedelic, dtone, sludge and doom bands. Dubbed Doomsday, the festival will do the rounds at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne, The ANU Bar in Canberra and The Bald Faced Stag in Sydney.
This years line-up features some of my favourite Australian bands, including Pod People, Grey Daturas, Clagg, Looking Glass, Space Bong, Summonus and Boonhorse. This definitely looks like a show that you do not want to miss. I know I can't wait for it. Check out the full line-up for each show below. Doooooooooooooooooooooom.

TONIGHT: Summonus CD launch with Looking Glass or Summer Slaughter
There are actually three interesting shows going down tonight in Sydney. First up, those lovable scamps over at Soundworks Touring have the Summer Slaughter tour (in Autumn) going on at the Manning Bar with Necrophagist, Dying Fetus, Aborted and The Faceless.
Then Sydney stoner/doom outfit Summonus are holding their EP launch at the Sandringham Hotel in Newtown. Joining them is the fucking amazing stoner rock group Looking Glass (ACT), the inimintable dual bass groove of Boonhorse (ACT) who you might recognise as their past incarnation LOG, and last of all the grim Sydney doomers Fattura Della Morte. That's definitely where I'll be.
Last of all, if punk is more you thing you've got the 'Maggotsville Crew' of Deathcage, Repo Man and Taipan playing up at the Lansdowne Hotel. Those bands really seem to play twice a week at times.
