One of my current favourites in the Australian fences are Canberra's Throat Of Dirt. Supported by public servants and dosed up on dissonance, the guys have recently recorded a 2 track demo that is now available through their bandcamp page. You can name your price.
They are also currently looking for another guitarist, maybe with some vocal opportunities. Here's what their facebook says:
We are contemplating/toying with the idea of adding a second guitarist (preferably one with vocal abilities) to our live line up and possibly permanent part of the band. If anyone is interested please message us. Canberra based preferably but Sydney based is a maybe.
If that appeals to you, perhaps the best course of action to take would be to download the demo, listen lots, contact the band, send nudes and positive vibes, cross your fingers. That, of course, is starting with the assumption that you own a guitar, and can play... if not, my advice is this: work in a shitty job, build hate, save for guitar, purchase guitar, realise it's probably not good enough, return to shitty job for more years, build more hate, get better guitar, realise you need an amp and possibly transport... oh you get the idea. I'm not Tolkien, so I'm not going to write too much.
The new Battle Pope vs. Jesus Christ Posse split 12" LP is out now and available for free download over at Art As Catharsis.
If you haven't heard them, Battle Pope describe themselves as "Little Richard wildly fucking Blood Duster, Captain Cleanoff and Elvis at a hedonist coke-orgy". Jesus Christ Posse sound like Black Flag with Billy Graham on vocals, or D.R.I. fronted by Pat Robertson.

Poisonous Viper Gang are a heavy as hell raw sludgey stoner-tinged punk 5-piece from Adelaide. They're a little hard to nail down style-wise, as they constantly play with a mixture of stoner, sludge, hardcore, rock and punk - but they're damn cool.
They feature a few faces that should be familiar to people hip with the Adelaide underground, including Steve (vocalist of awesome partyfunk group God God Dammit Dammit) on drums and Troy (vocalist of awesome doomstoners Hydromedusa) on guitar.
Their debut full length album is available FOR FUCKING NOTHING over at their bandcamp. You'd be a straight fool not to give it a spin.
Go download it for free, because you're heaps punx.
Sydney d-beat crust hardcore punx roxers Dark Horse have got their 2011 demo online for free download. It's pretty nice man. Real raging, nice noisy, crust production and solid playing.
The band is full of old mates who have been around for ages. Dark Horse has members of Dischord, Frank Rizzo, None Remain, Rock N' Roll Weapon, Unclean, Vae Victus, Cause and Effect, etc. That's probably why they don't suck.
Then you can like them on Facebook and we can all be e-friends.
Dearest grindpals, please enjoy this free download of Water Torture - a duo playign seething crust, raging d-beat and furious grindcore out of Buffalo, New York.
Tell the pals how much you love them over at their Facebook page.
I know I'm digging it. Another awesome release by Grindcore Karaoke!
They’ve been described as sounding a little like ‘Little Richard wildly fucking Blood Duster, Captain Cleanoff and Elvis at a hedonist coke orgy’. Now you can experience the sexual wonder of Battle Pope‘s new album The Holy Trinity: Bitches, Dicks and Gonorrhea ABSOLUTELY FREE.
A t-shirt and a limited edition digipak is also available for pre-order if you feel so inclined.
Pious sludged-out swing/grind for all.
