Battle Pope release ‘Pantless Carnage EP’
Sydney's hypersexualised sludged-out swing/grind quartet Battle Pope have released their debut EP.
Entitled Pantless Carnage, the tracks veer through sludged out grindcore, stoner rock and punk bringing to mind the likes of early Blood Duster, LOG and Captain Cleanoff. The group features members of Serious Beak, Adrift for Days, Kill A Celebrity and Ebolie.
While the physical release is limited to just 25 copies, you can download the entire album for free from their bandcamp site.
The group is expected to release their debut album in late 2011. You can catch them in Melbourne on July 16 at Yah Yah with Michael Crafter, Party Vibez, Fat Guy Wears Mystic Wolf Shirt and Lazerface.
BATTLE POPE: ASSEMBLE! (new Sydney partygrind for yo head)
Battle Pope are your new favourite Sydney pious party band, featuring members of Ebolie, Kill A Celebrity, Adrift for Days, Dyke Destroyer, Serious Beak, Squid (and so on and so forth).
These four sexual tyrannosaurs playing a sensual blend of swing, grind, funk, sludge and punk - citing influences like Captain Cleanoff, Log, Weedeater, Municipal Waste, Little Richard, Slick Rick, Parliament and Blood Duster.
They've got some rehearsal demos up on their MySpace and Facebook page. Strangely enough, one of the tracks is a cover of Little Richard's Long Tall Sally.
Check them out, and prepare to be judged. They debut at Black Wire Records on February 18th with Lazerface and Michael Crafter.
August 6th: Adrift for Days album launch with Agonhymn
Sydney psychedelic stoner/doom band Adrift for Days are launching their 71-minute debut album "The Lunar Maria" this Friday at Club Carnage (Plantation Bar, Empire Hotel, Kings Cross). Joining them are Melbourne's experimental doom duo Agonhymn alongside locals Summonus and Bad Voodoo.
"The Lunar Maria" is inspired by groups like Neurosis, Electric Wizard, Weedeater, Alice in Chains, Orange Goblin, Om and Sleep and features members of other Sydney bands including Ebolie, Intrepid, The Captains Package and Kill A Celebrity.
The album was recorded at The Brain Studios, with additional recording, mixing and mastering completed by Tim Carr at 301 Studios.
Adrift for Days have two songs from "The Lunar Maria" available for streaming and download on their MySpace page. The album will be made available for $15 at shows as well as online and through iTunes from August.

31/07: Sydney Weekend Gig Guide (Helm, Backyard Mortuary, Kill A Celebrity, Corpsickle)
I'm very hungover so I'll make this short and sweet. Friends; family; religion. These are the three things you must slay if you wish to succeed in grimness.
Whatever.
Tonight at the Lansdowne Hotel:
Kill A Celebrity (midnight)
Backyard Mortuary (11pm)
Beer Corpse (10pm)
Corpsickle (9pm)
This is Kill A Celebrity's 2nd last gig. We're going to do a final one probably around the end of the year with our mates and then we can both go on with our lives and pretend this never happened. I'll probably be giving away our new split CD with Krupskaya too. Why not?
Tomorrow night at the Bald Faced Stag: Helm are playing. Helm RULE. Check them out.
Love and doom.

Tonight at the Lansdowne Hotel
A bit of an off-beat event is going down tonight at The Lansdowne Hotel. The line-up features;
- A cock rock revivalist band called Jimmy Swouse and the Angry Darts, featuring members of bands like The Bakery, Brian Campeau, Squat Club, Brass Knuckles and the like.
- A obscene experimental 2 piece dubbed THE BZNZZ, featuring members of Ebolie, Brass Knuckles, Squat Club, Gauche, The Colours Tribute Band, Keating! the Musical and Darth Vegas amongst many more.
- A 15 piece noise band loving named Dyke Destroyer, featuring members of most of the aforementioned alongside Slimey Things, Kill A Celebrity, Anklepants, Day of the Meerkat, Cherry 2000 and many more.
You'll be there if you have poor taste in music, enjoy free gigs or have nothing better to do. I know I don't.
