I find myself violently roused from my slumber by a hysterical scream "WHERE'S MATT?? WHERE'S MATT??!?!". My throat is hoarse and I am drenched in a cold sweat. I look across the room into the mirror to find a pale, drawn and gaunt face that used to be mine, and I now know that the scream was my own.
Just where is Matt? My long-time partner in Australian grind crime has jumped the country to South East Asia to tour with his positive powerviolence/grind duo Michael Crafter. And while nothing will quite replace the smell of his hair, and his cautious, creeping smile, I rest a little easier knowing I can follow his (and drummer Dave Bates') daily adventures on the Michael Crafter blog.
Be sure to check it out and get the heaps party scoop on the fetid underground grind scene in South East Asia: http://michaelcrafter.blogspot.com/
We'll be welcoming our departed grindpals home on Saturday July 16 in Melbourne, as Party Vibez, Michael Crafter, Fat Guy Wears Mystic Wolf Shirt, Battle Pope and Lazerface tear up Yah Yahs nightclub.
Entitled Pantless Carnage, the tracks veer through sludged out grindcore, stoner rock and punk bringing to mind the likes of early Blood Duster, LOG and Captain Cleanoff. The group features members of Serious Beak, Adrift for Days, Kill A Celebrity and Ebolie.
While the physical release is limited to just 25 copies, you can download the entire album for free from their bandcamp site.
The group is expected to release their debut album in late 2011. You can catch them in Melbourne on July 16 at Yah Yah with Michael Crafter, Party Vibez, Fat Guy Wears Mystic Wolf Shirt and Lazerface.
Battle Pope are your new favourite Sydney pious party band, featuring members of Ebolie, Kill A Celebrity, Adrift for Days, Dyke Destroyer, Serious Beak, Squid (and so on and so forth).
These four sexual tyrannosaurs playing a sensual blend of swing, grind, funk, sludge and punk - citing influences like Captain Cleanoff, Log, Weedeater, Municipal Waste, Little Richard, Slick Rick, Parliament and Blood Duster.
Check them out, and prepare to be judged. They debut at Black Wire Records on February 18th with Lazerface and Michael Crafter.
