Grotfest – Upstairs at the Tote

Posted by mothereel

Totally Grotty

Hey Victoria!!  You feeling free and easy?

I'm pretty lazy, so I'm just going to copy the band descriptions as given to me...

The Impossible Nobodies:
Melbourne instrumental quartet featuring Morriszonkle (“that weird one-man-band symphony lunatic”) and members of Puta Madre Brothers, Foreign Magicians, My Favourite Colour is Gold and The Busty Insects.  Self-described “noxious caveman splatter jazz” taking influence equally from Jerry Goldsmith, Lester Young and the Melvins.

Great Earthquake:
Noah Symons aka Great Earthquake is a real renaissance man. Most days he can be found writing, playing and performing music as Great Earthquake or as a member of art-folk outfit Timothy and Wilderness or minimal punk-jazz band Light Lions, drawing and painting, or working as a barista in the lush green outer suburbs of Melbourne.
Noah is a veritable one-man-band live, playing, often all at one time, guitar, bass, drums, percussion and accordion, creating soundscapes, organically built up in time, with a strong emphasis on rhythm. His energetic performances have found him playing in cafes, pubs, shopping centre’s, art spaces, warehouses and backyards across the country.

Colostomy Baguette?:
Formed in 2009, Colostomy Baguette? were originally going to be a grind/gore band, but the night before the first rehearsal both members were blown away by Encircling Sea and decided to add various other noises into the mix.  Taking elements of goregrind, funeral doom, black metal, industrial and just about anything that is painful to the ears, Colostomy Baguette? are a band of noise.

Melbourne's grinding punk band Diploid has teamed up with Red Panda Records to bring out a new piece of vinyl titled 'Human'.  In order to give the release a bit more attention than this previous sentence, there'll be a launch gig with several other great and diverse bands.

At the Gasometer Hotel, along with Diploid you'll be treated to sets by droning hardcore sweethearts WhitehorseUrns are representing the blackened hardcore, Dribble claim to be shithead cavemen punk and Von Einem bring the noise.  All in all a bit of something for everybody.

Doors open 8:00

Tonight: 5 Star Prison Cell, Flesh Mechanic, Ebolie and Beyond Terror Beyond Grace!

Posted by Lachlan

Tonight we've got the inimitable Melbourne group Five Star Prison Cell headlining a show at The Bald Faced Stag in Lewisham. These guys are one of my favourite Australian bands - so dont miss out.

If that wasnt reason enough, this show marks the return of Sydney's Flesh Mechanic who have been away far, far too long. We've also got the NSW grindcore contingent of Ebolie and Beyond Terror Beyond Grace as well as Killswitch Engage-esque Queenslands Torn Asunder trekking down to open up the show.

Not a gig to be missed! Doors open at 8!

Craic Whore Grindcore Clips and Report

Posted by Lachlan

Alright so last weekend we played a killer gig with Slowly Building Weapons, Anal Discharge, Sordid and Grannyfist at The Harp Irish Pub. If ya didnt make it, sucked in because it was an awesomely chaotic night of grind and punk filled with many-a-pint of Guinness. Thanks to everyone who did come down, drank beer and talked shit with us.

We had fun - especially when our vocalist Ben threw Mother Eel vocalist Nathan off the stage and into a pylon during an imprompteu flute solo in our cover of Burden (see clip below). There was also the fucking cockhead of a sound guy who almost got his head kicked in by Shaneo and Matt from Anal Dischage's spitting war with his drummer. The gig also marked Shaneo's last show with Sordid as he goes on to pursue other projects. Honestly it was the best time I'd seen those guys play.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we ended up playing first, so sorry if you missed us. It was our first show with our new bassist Shannon - who you may or may not know as the guitarist and back-up vocalist for Wollongong death/grind band New Blood. He played very well, and apart from blowing up my 800w Fender bass head, seemed very comfortable with us on stage.

Shannon impressed us by learning all of our current setlist within three days of expressing interest in joining Kill A Celebrity, so we would like to officially welcome Shannon to Kill A Celebrity and hope he continues playing with us.

While I have some big recording and release news on the horizon, for now take some time to enjoy some of the chaos that was last weekend. And dont forget to visit our MySpace - you can expect a new track (my personal favourite infact) online VERY SOON!

Cheers and where appropriate, beers.
