Diploid Mini-Tour

Posted by mothereel

DiploidSm

Diploid, those Victorian people who play a form of Blackened Hardcore and feature a dual 'gender equal' vocal attack, are coming to Sydney and its surrounds.  They are even joined by Queenslanders, Dirty Charlie, on the Saturday.  That's two interstate bands plus some pretty good locals for the price of one!

Diploid, the band that has recorded a song featuring Extortion's Rohan doing vocals and that features members from recent to Sydney band Idle Minds, will pleasantly surprise your Sydney elite-ish sensibilities.

Diploid, go and see them.

All Are Equal In Death Mini-Tour: Cruciform, Brazen Bull (Qld) & Mother Eel

All Are Equal In Death Mini-Tour

All Are Equal In Death Mini-Tour

Uniting under their respective aspects of Extreme Metal, 3 hideously misguided bands are hitting the road and damaging audiences over 1 weekend.  Returning from Queensland are the ever jarring and schizophrenic Brazen Bull, to be offset by reformed 90s doom legends Cruciform and Blue Mountains based dissonant oddities Mother Eel.  The mini-tour will see all 3 bands stop off at Wollongong, Sydney and Ourimbah, on the Central Coast.  There they will be complimented by locals: Hawkmoth, Nobody Knew They Were Robots, Corotted, Alf Stewart & Postal.

Having pioneered the Australian Death/Doom style in the early 90s only to break up before their time, Cruciform have reformed and are returning to the live scene after way too long.
Playing their last series of shows with the current line-up, Queensland’s technical Death Grinders Brazen Bull return to NSW to show off their bass player Adam before he calls it a day .
Boasting new songs and merch, Avant-garde Death Metallers, Mother Eel will be exhibiting a re-arranged line-up.  They are now a fresh 4 piece but just as cacophonous, caustic and discordant.

Kicking off the tour will see the trio joined at Dicey Riley’s Hotel in Wollongong on the 22nd of March by Sludge negotiators Hawkmoth and Math worshipping Nobody Knew They Were Robots (NKTWR).  The show then moves into Sydney on the 23rd of March, where old school Death Metallers Corotted open up the night at The Agincourt Hotel.  The tour draws to a close on the 24th of March at an All Ages extravaganza in Ourimbah on the Central Coast.  Rounding out is this All Ages Show at Sohier Park Community Hall are NKTWR, Alf Stewart and Postal, who have recently released a split with Office Jerks.  Sunday is strictly a no drug or alcohol allowed event.

The Exploited Tour Australia & New Zealand

Posted by mothereel

Total Punk Rock

This April, riot starting, bouncer bashing, cop baiting, hotel trashing, foul talking, noise making, chaos causing, venue wrecking, government hating, rule breaking, piss taking, unrelenting, punk rock band THE EXPLOITED bring their politically charged live show to East Coast Australia and Auckland.

The Exploited are not 'punkers' or any of the other cutesy, watered down, TV friendly names you might want to call them.  The Exploited are punk rock.

Formed in 1979, the quartet created a simple, no-frills sound characterized by speed and aggression.   Led by vocalist Wattie Buchan, The Exploited is one of the UK’s most politically outspoken thrash bands, who has built a strong and loyal following both at home and abroad for its anti-authoritarian stance and criticism of the government, particularly in the Reagan/Thatcher era.

In 1980, the group founded its own independent record label, Exploited Record Company, and immediately released their debut EP Army Life, which was #6 in the independent charts for eight weeks, and the top 20 for an amazing 18 months. They then released another single, "Barmy Army", which immediately jumped into the independent charts and remained there for 53 weeks, peaking at #4.  In 1981 the band signed to Secret Records and released the single "Dogs of War", which peaked at #2 in the independent charts and #63 in the national charts.

1982 saw the release of The Exploited's first genuine classic album 'Troops Of Tomorrow' (#17), which ten years later was to see a medley of three tracks (most notably 'UK82' changed to 'LA92') covered by thrash metal band, Slayer, and US rapper Ice-T, for the 'Judgement Night' soundtrack. The homage was just further proof of the immeasurable influence that punk bands like The Exploited have had on the thrash metal scene.  In fact, it can be argued that without them, there would be no Metallica, Slayer or Slipknot.

In over two decades The Exploited have been tear gassed by German cops, banned from Holland, arrested in Spain, declared that the Falklands are British forever whilst on stage in Argentina and have caused more carnage than a multi-car pile up on the M1. Throughout that time they have remained steadfastly true to their roots, never selling out, never splitting up (despite numerous line-up changes) and never bowing down. They've been accused of being dumb (yes, sometimes, but wilfully so) and causing trouble (guilty again, but smashing stuff is fun and punks are supposed to be obnoxious). But The Exploited are also fiercely (not to mention bluntly) socially and politically aware, covering everything from the Criminal Justice Act to the increasing use of Big Brother CCTV and never wavering from their anti-authoritarian, anti-war stance.

08/03: $2 Grindcore at the Sando!

Posted by Lachlan

Welcome to every crusty grindheads dream - the chance to see four crushing NSW bands for less than the price of your average RSL schooner!

Come down to the Sandringham Hotel in Newtown on Saturday the 8th of March to check out four energetic grind and punk bands doing what they do best - making noise and causing chaos!

Headlining are the neck snapping Blue Mountain grinders Beyond Terror Beyond Grace, who have built up a reputation for a blisteringly tight and precise live show filled with crusty riffs, killer grooves and absolutely unrelenting blast beats!

Then there's the chaotic and chauvinistic Newcastle punk rockers Anal Discharge, who will no doubt reek havoc with their brand on politically incorrect brand of onstage mayhem; Kill A Celebrity who's violent grindcore antics have recently got them banned from Club Blink and lastly Bulémaconda; a new Southern Highlands death/grind band with something to prove.

So get yah arses down to the Sando on the 8th of March because the more cunts who come down; the more chance there are of more $2 grind gigs!

Brought to you by Grindhead Records.
