The visuals behind Australian grind: Glenno launches his new site

Posted by Lachlan

Municipal Waste design by Glenno / Glenn SmithIf there is one single visual artist that has been most strongly associated with the Australian grindcore scene above all others,  that would have to be "Glenno" (Glenn Smith).

Glenno has been creating brilliant illustrations for the Australian underground music scene for countless years. I can remember when I joined on to Grindhead Records back in 2005, Glenno was always our go-to man for incredible artwork at an obscenely reasonable cost.

This man has the utmost respect of the Australian underground for good reason, having worked with the likes of Captain Cleanoff, Blood Duster, Agents of Abhorrence, Ebolie, Grindhead Records, 4 Dead, Pisschrist, Volatile, Pure Evil Trio, the Sydney underground zine staple Unbelievably Bad, Obscene Extreme festival, Slaughterfest, East/West Death Grind fest, Monster Sessions, Hard-ons, Meatlocker, Insect Warfare, Electric Wizard, Pod People, Municipal Waste, Willie Nelson, Black Sabbath and countless others.

In any case, old mate has a brand spankin' new website up, so go check it out, admire his work and commission him for all your grind-art needs! Oh, and be sure to like him on Facebook.

Keep up the great work pal! Love from your AusGrind pals.

10 simple ways to tell you are on tour in a DIY band

Posted by Matt

If you answer yes to 7 or more of the following below, you are probably on some sort of DIY tour.

  1. You are driving on a highway all day surrounded by stinking dudes.
  2. Its a sunny day, you are outside in a strange city, and everyone is looking at you like you just raped their toddler-sister during a Satanic ritual.
  3. Everyone is chain smoking.
  4. You are drunk before midday.
  5. Coffee is redundant.
  6. You can see someone sculling goon mixed with orange juice in every photo you take (see left for example).
  7. No one has anything but the vaguest idea of what they are doing or where they are going.
  8. You haven't seen a hot girl in 2 days.
  9. Your ears are ringing.
  10. No one has anything to say to each other, so instead you simply repeat the same 5 catchphrases over and over.

Seek help.

Agents of Abhorrence drummer broke his collarbone (again)

Posted by Matt

If you're from Sydney and you dig your grindcore you may have noticed that Agents of Abhorrence - one of THE essential fucking live grind bands both within Australia and worldwide - have an upcoming show at the Bald Faced Stag.

Well... bad news. Agents of Abhorrence's seemingly inhuman drummer Max has broken his collar bone... again. As such, Agents of Abhorrence have had to pull out of their upcoming shows - including their first Sydney (I think) show since Insect Warfare back in early 2008 with Pisschrist, and a Melbourne show with doom/done beasts Encircling Sea.

The band has a long history of injuries, with Max managing to discolate his collarbone and Grant breaking his hip in recent years. Here's hoping that Max recovers quickly and fully so he can get back to what the man does best - destroy his kit, and our faces.

Here's a live clip to tide us over until the guys return:

Conquest for Death Australian Tour

Posted by Lachlan

Conquest for Death liveConquest for Death have announced a tour of Australia during October with Cut Sick!

Conquest for Death is a fast thrashy old school hardcore outfit made up of members of What Happens Next?, Artimus Pyle, All You Can Eat, Love Songs, Charm (Japan), Pisschrist & Straightjacket Nation - so it's a little bit of a punk rock supergroup.

They're playing with The Kill, Dad They Broke Me, The Corruptors (members of Los Diablos, Space Bong and The Guantanamo Bay City Rollers), Straightjacket Nation, 4 Dead, Crux, Deathcage, Maus and Pathetic Human over the course of the tour. They've got a pretty crazy live show, so be sure to cut the sleeves off your old Sick of it All t-shirts, do some dumbell curls and practice your spin kicks before the gig rolls around.

Obscene Extreme fansThe killer extreme webzine Diabolical Conquest have put up a fairly comprehensive run down and review of this years Obscene Extreme festival over in the Czech Republic. I know I'm pretty obsessed with the festival, so I found this to be pretty interesting stuff.

Bands such as Macabre Minstrels, Hell Show, Poppy Seed Grinder, Ass to Mouth, Keitzer, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Fucksaw, Disturbance Project, Cerebral Turbulency, Malignant Tumour, Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation, Mesrine, Splitter, Putrid Pile, Cock and Ball Torture, Regurgitate, Agathocles, Namek, Dead, Pisschrist, Impaled Nazarene, Extreme Noise Terror and Macabre were at the festival, and Baz also managed to catch up with Dan Lilker (Brutal Truth) for a quick ad-hoc interview.
