DOWNLOAD: Indonesian Powerviolence: Ah-!!!

Posted by Matt

Lo-fi Indonesian poverviolence band Ah-!!! have all their past recordings up on their bandcamp for free download. For lovers of drum and bass powerviolence, their stuff reminds me much of Spazz, that first wave PV shit. These dudes hail from Bandung, Indonesia and it's thriving DIY musical culture. They often play with Iron Lung when they tour SE Asia.

10 simple ways to tell you are on tour in a DIY band

Posted by Matt

If you answer yes to 7 or more of the following below, you are probably on some sort of DIY tour.

  1. You are driving on a highway all day surrounded by stinking dudes.
  2. Its a sunny day, you are outside in a strange city, and everyone is looking at you like you just raped their toddler-sister during a Satanic ritual.
  3. Everyone is chain smoking.
  4. You are drunk before midday.
  5. Coffee is redundant.
  6. You can see someone sculling goon mixed with orange juice in every photo you take (see left for example).
  7. No one has anything but the vaguest idea of what they are doing or where they are going.
  8. You haven't seen a hot girl in 2 days.
  9. Your ears are ringing.
  10. No one has anything to say to each other, so instead you simply repeat the same 5 catchphrases over and over.

Callout for bands, distros and volunteers Decolonise Fest ’09 (NSW)

Posted by Lachlan

Decolonise Festival 2009
Marrickville, Sydney, NSW
January 24-26

Next invasion day weekend will mark the 220th anniversary of European settlement in Australia. A short distance from the flag waving and the Big Day Out, in the industrial outskirts of the proudly diverse suburb of Marrickville, a cluster of emerging independent venues will be invaded by punks, artists, activists, DIY merchants, zinesters and what-have-you's. Decolonise will mark the first collaboration between these young warehouse dwellers and an exploration of the possibilities of this unique setting for underground Sydney music, arts and activism.

Across (and between) more than five venues, this small weekend wasteland will be a setting for a sprawling array of gigs, workshops, discussions, zine fairs, film screenings and spontaneous festivities! Pubs, clubs and theatres get stuffed! We will explore how to decolonise: how to think outside the scope of our "scenes", and how to avoid being isolated from our environment (without turning Marrickville into another Glebe). Let's kickstart a new wave of independent art!

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW! Contact us if you have an independent mind and:
*you can make things
*you know about legal issues
*you work with communities
*you write zines
*you make films
*you play in a band
*you have a distro
*you have any assets you would like to share, no matter how small!

We are in the early stages of planning, so anything is possible.
