Tonight: Slowly Building Weapons farewell show
In addition to Captain Cleanoff playing at Maggotsville, the experimental hardcore band Slowly Building Weapons are playing their final show ever tonight at The Lansdowne.
It's really unforunate to see these guys break up, the few times I got a chance to see them I was very impressed. They are joined by super star Soviet records supports Hospital the Musical and Sound the Mute. It would be well worth your time to go farewell these guys. And it's free, you cheap bastard.

Craic Whore Grindcore Clips and Report
Alright so last weekend we played a killer gig with Slowly Building Weapons, Anal Discharge, Sordid and Grannyfist at The Harp Irish Pub. If ya didnt make it, sucked in because it was an awesomely chaotic night of grind and punk filled with many-a-pint of Guinness. Thanks to everyone who did come down, drank beer and talked shit with us.
We had fun - especially when our vocalist Ben threw Mother Eel vocalist Nathan off the stage and into a pylon during an imprompteu flute solo in our cover of Burden (see clip below). There was also the fucking cockhead of a sound guy who almost got his head kicked in by Shaneo and Matt from Anal Dischage's spitting war with his drummer. The gig also marked Shaneo's last show with Sordid as he goes on to pursue other projects. Honestly it was the best time I'd seen those guys play.
Due to unforeseen circumstances we ended up playing first, so sorry if you missed us. It was our first show with our new bassist Shannon - who you may or may not know as the guitarist and back-up vocalist for Wollongong death/grind band New Blood. He played very well, and apart from blowing up my 800w Fender bass head, seemed very comfortable with us on stage.
Shannon impressed us by learning all of our current setlist within three days of expressing interest in joining Kill A Celebrity, so we would like to officially welcome Shannon to Kill A Celebrity and hope he continues playing with us.
While I have some big recording and release news on the horizon, for now take some time to enjoy some of the chaos that was last weekend. And dont forget to visit our MySpace - you can expect a new track (my personal favourite infact) online VERY SOON!
Cheers and where appropriate, beers.

3/11: Craic Whore Grindcore – The Harp Hotel
Alright guys so this Saturday is the highly anticipated Grindhead Records promoted Craic Whore Grindcore at The Harp Irish Pub at 900 The Princes Highway in Tempe. The joint is a short walk from Sydenham or Tempe station, doors open at 7pm and entry is $10.
Unfortunately due to “unforeseen” circumstances Takedown have pulled out of the event. More accurately they forgot that it was on. The good news is that Kill A Celebrity will be taking their spot on the bill – and that all bands will be allowed much more generous set lengths. Kill A Celebrity will also be joined by Shannon of New Blood and Split Face on bass guitar – so make sure you check that spectacle out.
The complete line up is:
- Slowly Building Weapons
- Anal Discharge (Newcastle)
- Kill A Celebrity
- Granny Fist (Newcastle)
- Sordid
First up we have Sordid playing crusty grindcore in the vein of Phobia and old school Napalm Death. They’ve been putting on some great shows with Shaneo (of Bludgeoner and Roadside Burial) helping out on second guitar.
Second we have Granny Fist - an absolutely chaotic experimental noise/grind band hailing from Newcastle with awesome stage presence. These guys are just a violent aural raping – grind fans be sure to check them out. When I first saw them they blew me away!
Then we have the usual self promoting crap from me with Kill A Celebrity – a hyper-speed violent grindcore band who will be performing for the first time with a bass player.
Up next are Anal Discharge are a completely unpredictable hardcore punk rock group from Newcastle with an absolutely insane live show – I mean these guys go fucking nuts. They’re great drunken misogynistic fun – if nothing else, come for these guys and you don’t regret it.
Then headlining we have Slowly Building Weapons, hot on the heels of their newest release Nausicaa. Slowly Building Weapons are an experimental hardcore group – their tracks are slow and menacing like the darker moments of Converge and 4 Dead filled with discordance and headfucking soundscapes.
Plenty of good reasons to come down, check out some new bands and have a pint of Guinness or fifteen. Hope to see you all down there!
