This Saturday the 4th of April sees one of the Sydney crust band Sordid's final shows. Their singer Keef is packing up and leaving town, so try and get down to support em. The show is at Talbot St Studios in St. Peters, which is a pretty cool DIY venue slash rehearsal studio located at 4 Talbot St. It's just off the Princes Highway, and not too far from the station.
Joining them on Saturday are old school booze grinders Beer Corpse, thrash/punk outfit Dead, Wasted, ever-improving Wollongong brutal death/grinders New Blood, beercore grinders Fuck Oath and the grim merchants of doom Summonus (who's new CD fucking kicks arse by the way).
Sordid's farewell show is on May 2nd at the same venue. Shaneo from Bludgeoner, Fuck Oath and Roadside Burial fame will be playing bass for these last handful of shows. Sordid released their debut Sordid Remains on Grindhead Records back in 2006. Check out the Grindhead website for some free MP3 downloads.
In the coming months, Grindhead Records are also expected to release new albums from New Blood and Fuck Oath, so be sure to keep an ear out for all the latest. Maybe subscribe to this blog even. Ey?? EY??!
Sordid D'Zine is a new online zine available for your reading pleasure. It is an international collaboration of grind dudes writing about whatever the hell they want to write about. So far they have a few copies up here. Including interviews with UK writer Jonny Nexus, Carcass reviews and other random shit. I recommend giving it a bit of a read as its actually pretty funny, some of the writers have real wit about them and although its not the most attractive zine out there it is very honest and brutal in its writing style.
I have an inkling most of the writers are from that poor background of an arts degree providing a limited scope of employment, leading to too much free time therefore releasing zine's helps fill that void. But its worth it. Just one recommendation I would give them would be to make it a little bit more user friendly to read/download for fucking nerds like me. Wheres your rss feed? If it aint xml it aint worth shit, I like my news timely to the second. But if you dont mind printing out the pdf's do it.
That said its great to see a zine making all their articles using archive.org, a completely compyright free source of data, that has been used in the past by bands wishing to escape record labels and corporations taking their cut (Defiance Ohio, Hank III etc).
Such Is Life Festival - 2008. A nice lineup full of great bands and at 25 bucks! If L lived anywhere near Melbourne I would definitely hit this up. Some of the highlights include Insurgents, Straightjacket Nation and The Kill plus a million other awesome bands. A really good mix of bands, you got some grind bands, some hardcore bands and some more melodic hardcore sorta shit. Top notch, well done.
If anyone goes or is going can they please leave a comment and let me know how it goes? Perhaps email me some pics?

Alright so last weekend we played a killer gig with Slowly Building Weapons, Anal Discharge, Sordid and Grannyfist at The Harp Irish Pub. If ya didnt make it, sucked in because it was an awesomely chaotic night of grind and punk filled with many-a-pint of Guinness. Thanks to everyone who did come down, drank beer and talked shit with us.
We had fun - especially when our vocalist Ben threw Mother Eel vocalist Nathan off the stage and into a pylon during an imprompteu flute solo in our cover of Burden (see clip below). There was also the fucking cockhead of a sound guy who almost got his head kicked in by Shaneo and Matt from Anal Dischage's spitting war with his drummer. The gig also marked Shaneo's last show with Sordid as he goes on to pursue other projects. Honestly it was the best time I'd seen those guys play.
Due to unforeseen circumstances we ended up playing first, so sorry if you missed us. It was our first show with our new bassist Shannon - who you may or may not know as the guitarist and back-up vocalist for Wollongong death/grind band New Blood. He played very well, and apart from blowing up my 800w Fender bass head, seemed very comfortable with us on stage.
Shannon impressed us by learning all of our current setlist within three days of expressing interest in joining Kill A Celebrity, so we would like to officially welcome Shannon to Kill A Celebrity and hope he continues playing with us.
While I have some big recording and release news on the horizon, for now take some time to enjoy some of the chaos that was last weekend. And dont forget to visit our MySpace - you can expect a new track (my personal favourite infact) online VERY SOON!
Cheers and where appropriate, beers.
