DOWNLOAD: Drone from the Underside of the Earth compilation

Posted by mothereel
Lachlan has spent a lot of hours on this project this year. He really wanted to draw attention to some of the country's awesome fuzzy, droney, drug-addled groups, that perhaps don't get the attention they deserve - especially outside of Australia - because the reality is we can boast some of the most unique and varied slow music of any country.

Drone From The Underside Of The Earth Front Cover

So Lachlan set off with intent to pull together some of his favourite artists in Australia's stoner, sludge, doom and drone scenes in order to get more people to discover great Australian underground music. But he was a little naive of quite how long it would take him!
The hard work paid off in the end. Drone form the Underside of the Earth features a selection of 26 tracks. This is a rare, eye-opening peek into Australia's rich underground music scene. At 3-and-a-half hours in length it's quite a ride, but we sincerely hope that you at least discover a few new bands as a result of this work.
Drone from the Underside of the Earth is a FREE digital compilation featuring Australia's best stoner, sludge, doom and drone bands, featuring: Space Bong, Hydromedusa, Adrift for Days, Looking Glass, In Trenches, No Anchor, Drowing Horse, Sons of the Ionian Sea, Summonus, DEAD, Futility, Clagg, Mother Eel, Log, Battle Pope,  Law Of The Tongue, Arrowhead, Moth, Shellfin, Futility, Sore, Noûs, Atolah, The Slow Death, Mother Mars, Lint and Houdini.

Doomsday, High and Dry and Soundwave

Posted by Lachlan

A few words about three upcoming - and radically different - festivals; Doomsday, High And Dry and Soundwave.

Doomsday Festival
First up; Doomsday hits Sydney tomorrow. To answer the rumours; yes unfortunately both Pod People and Blarke Bayer's (of Grey Datura's I believe) Black Widow have had to pull out of the festival. They have been replaced by Fattura Della Morte; who will once more be reforming to play one of their "final shows ever".

Here is the final line-up and set times. Doors open at the Sandringham Hotel in Newtown at 4pm and entry is now $20 (since Ivan of 666 Entertainment thought it wasn't fair to keep the price as is without Pod People, and because he's just an all-around nice guy).

Sore: 4:15 - 4:45
Fattura Della Morte: 5:05 - 5:35
Space Bong: 5:55 - 6:25
Dread: 6:45 - 7:15
Boonhorse: 7:35 - 8:05
Summonus: 8:25 - 8:55
Looking Glass: 9:15 - 9:45
Agonhymn: 10:05 - 10:40
Clagg: 11:00 - 11:45

I'll definitely be there; however I'll be heading off towards the end to see the amazing Sydney-based singer/songwriter Brian Campeau launch his new album 'Mostly Winter, Sometimes Spring' at The Macquarie Hotel in Surry Hills.

Soundwave Festival
Next; the line-ups for both High And Dry festival and Soundwave are impressive. Soundwave have secured my interest by promising Faith No More, Meshuggah, Isis and Baroness. I never expected to ever go to one of those awful festivals; but I think this year might just be an essential.

High and Dry Festival
Lastly, the High and Dry line-up already includes such fantastic local acts as The Crooked Fiddle Band, Squid, Svelt, Juke Baritone and the Swamp Dogs, Charlie and the Maddox Factory, Brackets, The Bakery, Monk Fly, Fuji Collective and The Phonies. Early bird tickets are only $120, so hook one up if you want a dose of killer local independent music.
