Lesstalk Gig Guide: March 6th and 7th

Two of Lesstalk’s more active members are playing some pretty freaking good shows this weekend to kick off Autumn. Crab Smasher are supporting Naked on the Vague Sat night at Carriageworks and Michael Crafter is supporting Realicide on Sunday at Jura Books. All the details are below.

SATURDAY MARCH 6th
Part two in the Lucas Abela curated Auraltered State series of performances at Carriageworks is coming up this week. You’d be stupid to miss this!

Diving deep into a world of apocalyptic pop and psychedelic weirdness Naked On The Vague offer a modern take on the post punk aesthetic. Faling into existence in 2005 with a found organ, broken bass guitar, borrowed drum and some old doom poetry. Their 2007 debut album ‘the blood pressure sessions’ attracted them the attention of seminal US label siltbreeze, who are set to release their second album.

Sydney Australia’s favourite chronically depressed, long term unemployed, alcoholic, asthmatic, homosexual electronic music pioneer. An early adherent to punderphonics, Garry Bradbury is a master editor of found sound, whether it be fastidious early experiments with reel to reel tape or working on today’s digital palette.

Crab Smasher are a NSW based group of improvisational sound sharks crafting a frenzied hodgepodge of weirdo psychedelic noise rock and experimental pop delicious. The band formed in 2002 as a cheesy electronic novelty noise act and have since mutated through a number of confusing formations into the sellout 4-5 headed rock-and-roll hydra that exists today. With about 13 or 14 CDR, cassette, and digital releases to their name, the band are currently working on a new LP, which promises to be both titillating and queer.

3 of Lesstalks “premier” singer songwriters are playing together on March 13th at Mars Hill Cafe in Paramatta. It should be a really great/good/excellent/cruisy night with coffee and great food. Some of the guys will be plugging in their guitars for this one so it should be totally rocking.

Jess Locke – In The Bedroom = 4/5

Jessica Knight Locke

Jess Locke’s free download on Lesstalk Records download page was reviewed in the latest issue of Reverb Magazine. “Jess Locke – In The Bedroom” was a home recorded album pressed in a small run of 50 for Jess’ friends for Christmas (I still have a couple copies if anyone wants one), and somehow it was picked up by the good people at Reverb Magazine and given a stellar review.

Lesstalk Records made the album available for all on the downloads page (maybe we should of released it properly… hmmmmm).
